Too many people with limited influence spend too much time worrying about it. It's vanity publishing for the digital age!
2. Very few have got it right yet. It's an immature discipline.
3. Klout panders to the people referenced in 1, above.
4. If you have social influence, you shouldn't need to tell prospective employers you have it

Re: Social Media Influence : Klout, Scoring, Influence and all that…

Thanks Lee,

In principle I don't mind the tools themselves - they serve a purpose and support what might otherwise be a very time intensive search for influential types.

I think they need to be more topic specific - influential isn't a multi sector title - influence on electronic product Vs cat food might be very different people.

The thing that gets me is the broad 'one approach fits all' mentality to using the tools, misinterpretation of what they're measuring and what purpose in which to trust one.

BF

Re: Social Media Influence : Klout, Scoring, Influence and all that…

Q: What do you think about the concept of Social scoring and ranking influence?

I think it's impossible to do without human intervention and human intervention by way of giving +K or Kred is heavily biased towards the platforms on which it is best propagated and therefore doesn't really work either.

Will one forum user give another forum user +K in anything? No. They probably don't even know what it is.

Q: What do you think about influential blogger outreach or influencer marketing?

I think it's necessary but as per my previous comment, you need to do some proper human research to find out who is genuinely influential in a particular field rather than just having a high Klout score or lots of followers.

Q: What do you think specially about Klout?

If it was a cake, i'd spit it out.

Q: Should a form of social influence be on your cv?

Sort of... but not a Klout score or similar (see above). If you're an influential blogger, perhaps some top line statistics might be good. It also depends on the role you're applying for.

Re: Social Media Influence : Klout, Scoring, Influence and all that…

From Twitter : (@Dave_Nissan)

@barryfurby I'm not a fan of Klout. Not that simple to use and as you say, egotistic

Re: Social Media Influence : Klout, Scoring, Influence and all that…

Thanks Alex, I totally agree that the right mix will always be technology + human, but there are some pretty interesting concepts coming into play here.

I think I have got over my initial worry about Klout just being an egotistic personality fuelling platform. If used correctly I can see some value coming out of this space...

Klout on a for sourcing job candidates still get my ex-recruiter back up, decisions being made on this kind of technology which might not be foolproof still worry me. What if John Smith tweets as @jonnyboy and hasn't connected his profiles?

Re: Social Media Influence : Klout, Scoring, Influence and all that…

In order of questions:

1) No tool out there is accurate enough to measure this yet in terms of specific subjects, still requires human investigation to find a appropriate influencer for the specific campaign.

2) Very powerful if the influencer targeted correctly and then managed effectively to achieve a goal on behalf of the company.

3) Klout - as above, not yet accurate enough to be 100% relied upon, but no other software is either IMO.

4) Yes when appropriate for a specific role, but often the best influencers run their blog/other as a full/part-time seperate entity, which can be hard to incorporate into a job.

Re: Bring back Old Tweetdeck (project: #oldtweetdeck)

http://www.oldversion.com/maci...
